An on-demand Test Problem Server

چکیده
Matrix algorithms, especially sparse matrix methods, play an important role in computational science. The researchers that develop such algorithms (such as linear system solvers, eigensolvers, mathematical optimization, and graph algorithsm) require test matrices that are, ideally, drawn from a large, varied, and realistic test collection. Unfortunately, existing collections (e.g., the Harwell-Boeing collection, Matrix Market, and the University of Florida collection) are often old, contain matrices that are unrealistically small for current computers, or are otherwise limited. We describe the design of a dynamic test collection based on solicited research and production codes, hosted at TACC (the Texas Advanced Computing Center of The University of Texas at Austin). These codes will be made available in the form of a test problem server, run on demand with properties (both size and problem parameters) specified by the user. Also, they will be used to generate a static test collection of large, precomputed test problems that can be searched through an extensive repertoire of properties. In both cases, the matrices will be made available via the web for download, as a TeraGrid Data Collection accessible at high speed from other TeraGrid resources, and directly from within codes running on TACC’s TeraGrid resources. Stored matrices will be accessible through a database that allows searching on a wide range of numerical features. Eijkhout et al. An on-demand Test Problem Server

A Multicast-On-Large-Demand Approach to the Flash Crowd Problem
In this paper we propose a multicast-on-large-demand (MOLD) approach to the flash crowd problem. A MOLD Web server may dynamically open a multicast channel for resources when detecting a very high demand for them, and it reverts back to the normal unicast mode when the flash crowd subsides. A number of mechanisms necessary for realizing the MOLD system are thoroughly discussed. We have implemen...
متن کاملMaximal Benefit Location Problem for A Congested System
Some servers are to be located at nodes of a network. Demand for services of these servers is located at each node and a subset of the nodes is to be chosen to locate one server in each. Each customer selects a server with a probability dependent on distance and a certain amount of benefit is achieved after giving service to the customer. Customers may waive receiving service with a known prob...
متن کاملWorking Vacation Queue with Second Optional Service and Unreliable Server
An M/M/1 queueing system with second optional service and unreliable server is studied. We consider that the server works at different rate rather than being idle during the vacation period. The customers arrive to the system according to Poisson process with state dependent rates depending upon the server’s status. All customers demand the first essential service whereas only some of them dema...
متن کاملOptimal emergency demand response program integrated with multi-objective dynamic economic emission dispatch problem
Nowadays, demand response programs (DRPs) play an important role in price reduction and reliability improvement. In this paper, an optimal integrated model for the emergency demand response program (EDRP) and dynamic economic emission dispatch (DEED) problem has been developed. Customer’s behavior is modeled based on the price elasticity matrix (PEM) by which the level of DRP is determined for ...
متن کاملBi-objective optimization of multi-server intermodal hub-location-allocation problem in congested systems: modeling and solution
A new multi-objective intermodal hub-location-allocation problem is modeled in this paper in which both the origin and the destination hub facilities are modeled as an M/M/m queuing system. The problem is being formulated as a constrained bi-objective optimization model to minimize the total costs as well as minimizing the total system time. A small-size problem is solved on the GAMS software t...
